Foreign Worker Stream
The proposed changes in these streams included that applicants who include Canadian work experience must have been legally working and living in Canada at the time. They, or any member of their family, should not have equity in the business of their employer, or ever have held it; directly or indirectly. This is unless it was gotten as their remuneration’s part, as an employee, and the equity was less than 10%.
Masters Graduate Stream
The new changes to the Masters Graduate Stream are more favorable to applicants who take more than a year to complete the study program. Unlike the previous system that capped the applicants’ time frame to two years to have obtained all the requirements to join the Master’s degree, the new changes allow applicants who take part-time programs—which takes longer than one year—to be eligible for the program. Notably, the new changes have little effect on the Ph.D. Graduate Stream.
Express Entry Streams
Modifications made to the Express Entry system covered three streams that were aligned with the OINP. These were Human Capital Priorities, French-Speaking Skilled and Experienced Worker, and Skilled Trades. With the effect of the changes, program officers will evaluate the applicant’s work experience as from their date of application, unlike before when it was from the day they received their Notification of Interest (NOI).
This will give applicants more time to get OINP nomination since they would have up to 45 extra days to obtain a minimum of a year’s full-time work experience. One does not need a job offer to be eligible for any Express Entry stream aligned with the OINP.
The streams mentioned above were not the only ones that recorded changes. Others included the Masters and Ph.D. Graduate Streams. With the proposed changes, more graduates will be able to apply for the program.
To sum up, with most of the change made to various streams of the Provincial Nominee Program in Ontario, those working as nurses, home support workers, and truck drivers can now easily apply for it. Things will also be easier for entrepreneurs and students who are interested in being under the program.
