Despite the world experiencing a global pandemic and having travel significantly stifled for the majority of the population, interest in immigrating to Canada remains high. The WES found that only 21% of respondents thought that the pandemic would delay their plans to immigrate to Canada.

Global pandemic or not, people hoping to immigrate to Canada still have a strong desire to move to The Great White North even if they faced difficult economic or personal circumstances. Is Canada Still Welcoming Immigrants?

The global pandemic saw countless countries across the world close their borders. New rules have been introduced across the world to travel and immigrate to countries, with many people putting their immigrating plans on hold.

Canada aimed to welcome approximately 341,000 immigrants in 2020 before COVID-19 took the world by storm. After the pandemic hit, Canada took the necessary measures to limit the spread of the virus and reduced new immigrant numbers to 184,000.

The good news for immigrants hoping to move to Canada is that most travel restrictions have been lifted. While this is music to many peoples’ ears, the bad news is that the pandemic has caused a significant delay in processing immigration applications.

There is hope yet! Canada snapped back from the pandemic in an impressive fashion with an improved economy and job market in 2021. Despite COVID-19 still existing across the country, Canada welcomed 401,000 new immigrants in 2021.

The world eagerly awaits Canada’s immigration plan for the years ahead. The current plan for 2022 and beyond aims to welcome 411,000 new immigrants. While there may still be a delay in applications, there is hope for immigrating to this beautiful state soon!
