LMIA Will Allow Email Intakes

For now, LMIA intakes will be allowed via email. This is due to service limitations within the Canada Post (postal service). They are also anticipating that more mail processing centers will be closed due to COVID-19.

Service Canada is still working out the details for the email intake process. They will update their website later next week when the details are finalized.

Employers Able to Use the Online Process

Employers will be allowed to use LMIA online to process new applications for temporary foreign workers. This will help reduce the waiting time, speeding up approvals for critical occupations.

Improvement and Maintaining Service Standard

Service Canada Operations is still trying to finalize all the details of the new LMIA rules and regulations. They will work continually to try to provide and deliver all their schedules on time. The current wait time for new LMIA applications is 10 days.

They will also try to streamline the process of name changes for foreign workers named on the LMIA. They will now speed up these changes from a five-day processing time to turn around service of one day.

With Canada and the world experiencing many changes due to the global pandemic of Coronavirus, the Service Canada Operation Department will do their best to accommodate the changes necessary to keep employers and employees working.
