More Work Experience for International Students
For better economic and social integration, university degree and diploma holders will also be required to have more work experience. To begin with, the job for International students with university degrees and diplomas obtained from universities and colleges in Quebec must fall under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) codes 0, A, B and C. As per the new reforms, the degree holders will be required to have 12 months of Quebec work experience that fall within NOC codes 0, A, and B. On the other hand, the diploma holders will be required to have 24 months of Quebec work experience in NOC codes 0, A, B, and C level jobs.
Spouse’s French Knowledge
As part of the new reforms, the principal applicant’s spouse must demonstrate a certain level of proficiency in spoken French that will help them integrate well into society.
Firm Integrity
Over the years, certificate of completion for advanced intermediate level French issued from various education intuitions in the province has raised integrity concerns due to some discrepancies. For this reason, those certificates will longer be applicable as proof of proficiency in the French language.
Application Processing Time
As the QEP aims to treat the QEP and the Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSWP) candidates equally, the application process will be increased from 20 days to 6 months.
Two New Pilots for Nurses’ Aides and Tech Workers
The Quebec government will also be introducing two new immigration pilot programs—one for tech workers and another one for nurses’ aides.
According to the current workforce, the number of nurse aides is not meeting the labour market demand. Since 2013, only 115 nurses’ aides have received PR is the province. The goal of the new pilot program is to provide permanent residence to 550 nurses’ aides every year.
On the same note, the government has announced a high-tech related pilot that will take care of the high demand for the labour force in the artificial intelligence and information technology departments. This pilot aims at bringing 550 specialized talents in the tech sector every year.
