What is the Student Direct Stream?
Canada allows students to apply for a fast-track study permit option called the Student Direct Stream (SDS). However, you can only apply for this option if you live in any of the following countries:
- India
- China
- The Philippines
- Pakistan
- Vietnam
- Morocco
- Senegal
- Brazil
- Colombia
- Peru
- Antigua and Barbuda
- Costa Rica
- Trinidad and Tobago
- Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
You can submit your application for the SDS online. It takes an average of 20 days to process the application. The requirements do not vary from those of the ordinary study permit but you may need to meet additional qualification criteria. You need to obtain a minimum of 6.0 on each skill on the IELTS. If you are taking a French test, you need the equivalent of a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) score of at least 7 for each skill on the TEF. You should also have a Guaranteed Certificate (GIC) with a participating Canadian bank worth CAD 10,000.
Canada offers limitless opportunities for international students. You get to take advantage of high-quality education, great living standards, and job opportunities during and after your studies. You can also take advantage of more than 100 economic class immigration pathways, some of which encourage international graduates to apply. With Canada lifting most of the COVID-19 restrictions, there is no better time to advance your education as an international student here.
