The province has expressed interest to be allowed to increase its nomination allocation to 7,600 in the coming year of 2019. This would be an increase from this year’s number by 1000 nominations.
According to the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program, there is high demand for this province to increase its allocation. This is why they are piling pressure on the federal government to increase their annual allocation.
They revealed that Canada’s PNP admission was at the record high of 49,724 in the year 2017 and this led the government to set 2018 and 2019 target to 55,000 and 61,000 respectively.
In one of the interview Sarah Letersky, communication director of the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, 2019 PNP has gone higher than anticipated. She believes an addition of 100 immigrants would help Ontario become more adaptive and responsive to the labour market needs.
“By the end of the year 2018 Ontario will know its nomination allocation,” she said in the interview.
Other provinces that have recorded rise in the number of immigrants include Manitoba, Newfoundland, and Labrador that have seen an increase by 25% since 2017. The government of Labrador and Newfoundland issued a statement categorically stating that they wish to increase their numbers to 1,700 per year.
On the other hand, Manitoba has echoed its provincial nominee program stating that they have experienced impressive population growth. In fact, it is amongst the fastest growing provinces in Canada over the last three years.
This is due to the province effort to integrate immigrants on their labour market and entrepreneurial needs. Importantly, they have welcomed 130,000 immigrants since its onset in 1998
