In 2017, the number of American students who received visas to study in Canada increased by 1, 012 compared to the annual average for the past eight years.
On the night of Trump’s election, the colleges and universities in Canada recorded an increase in traffic. Plenty of American students started to look for opportunities to study in Canada. The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada website crashed on the same night.
Are There Any Other Reasons?
Guidy Mamann, the Toronto immigration lawyer, says the election of Trump into presidency is not the only cause for Americans’ desire to move north. He feels that fluency of the English language is one of the many reasons why most Americans prefer to move to Canada. He feels that language holds more weight than Trump’s presidency. Many Americans would not like to move to countries that do not speak English.
Who Wants to Leave?
According to research conducted by the Gallup, the people who want to leave America are mostly Democrats who do not like President Trump’s leadership. More women than men wish to leave the country. The number of women who wish to leave is 10% more than those who wanted to leave during Obama’s presidency.
Those under the age of 30 who wish to leave have also reached a record high. 30% of young people under the age of 30 wish to leave and 40% of them are women
