Quebec Invites Newcomers

The province of Quebec recently announced the results of two draws held through its immigration program, one on February 8th and another on February 22nd. As explained below, each draw looked for a different group of people with specific qualities.

It’s important to know that Quebec doesn’t have a Provincial Nominee Program, PNP, like other provinces. This setup is because they have a special deal with the federal government, IRCC, that lets them pick who they want for jobs in their area.

On February 8th, Quebec announced the results of a draw where, on February 5th, the immigration minister invited 1,034 people to apply to stay permanently.

To get an invitation, people had to meet these three requirements: a score of 613 points or higher, level 7 or higher on the Quebec French skills scale, be good at speaking French, and have a confirmed job offer outside of the Montreal area.

Following the first draw, Quebec announced the results of their second draw on February 22nd. Quebec sent out invites on February 19th and invited 1,007 people to apply to stay permanently.

This group needed a minimum score of 608 and met these requirements: have a confirmed job offer outside of Montreal, be good at speaking French, and have a level 7 or higher on the Quebec French skills scale. People who got an invitation to either of these draws can now apply for a Quebec selection certificate.

This step is the first phase for people wanting to stay permanently in Quebec before applying with the federal government.

Manitoba Welcomes Ukrainians

On February 28th, Manitoba announced the results of a recent draw held for its PNP. This draw coincided with special immigration measures put in place by the provincial government to assist Ukrainians affected by the ongoing conflict.

As part of this initiative, the Manitoba PNP issued 155 “Letters of Advice to Apply” to eligible candidates. This setup aligns with Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada’s IRCC, special measures designed to help Ukrainians seeking new beginnings in Canada.

PEI Invites Healthcare and Construction Workers

Prince Edward Island recently held its most negligible PNP draw since October 2023 concerning invitations offered through the Labour and Express Entry categories. On February 29th, the PEI PNP issued just 24 invitations to candidates working in healthcare and construction. This draw marks the first time since last November that Prince Edward Island has conducted three PNP draws in a month.

For those considering making Canada their home, this is an encouraging time to take steps toward realizing that dream.
