The Canadian Express Entry system manages the profiles of three main economic class immigration program, that is,

  • The Federal Skilled Talent Class,
  • The Federal Skilled Worker Class, and
  • The Canadian Experience Class.

Candidates from the three classes are ranked based on a score awarded under Express Entry’s CRS. This system takes into account certain factors such as;

  • The Level of Education,
  • Age of The Candidate,
  • Proficiency in English and Fresh Languages, And
  • Skilled Work Experience.

Candidates whose scores are above the cut-off points receive the Invitation To Apply (ITA) through the draws that are usually held from time to time. The application process for permanent residence—which is run by the IRCC—usually takes six months.

With the recent draw, the IRCC applied its tie-break rule that used the date set at 10:36:59 UTC on March 7th, 2020. This simply means that any candidate who had a CRS score of 440 and above and had submitted his or her profile before the set time received an Invitation To Apply for this draw. This invitation round brings this year’s cumulative total of the ITAs to 42,100.

The current global pandemic has disrupted governments’ normal operations, and the Canadian immigration system has not been spared. The government has to put into place stringent measures aimed at fighting the spread of this virus. Since March 18th, the immigration department has undergone significant changes, but this did not stop the Express Entry operations. Through the program, candidates are still submitting their profiles and receive invitations during the regular draws.

Over the past two months, IRCC has held a total of twelve PNP and CEC draws. Luckily candidates from these two categories may not be affected by the current travel restrictions due to Covid-19 since they are more likely to be in the country than those invited through other Express Entry programs.
