Professional/ Career Summary

Your objective should be to make the hiring manager understand your goals and why you are the best fit for that job position. Three sentences are enough to outline what makes you the most suitable candidate for the job. Whatever unique experiences, skills, or talents you possess, make sure you’ve diligently but succinctly outlined them.

Focus on one job application at a time, if you are applying for a finance officer, call yourself a finance office and let your resume focus on that post. List things like project manager/finance officer/HR officer is not professional and lacks focus even if you are qualified to do either of the jobs. If need be, apply for each post separately by starting with stating your objective clearly on each resume.

Remember to mention years of relevant experience(s), what you achieved during those years, and what are your short-term and long-term future ambitions.

Do not give generic information about yourself or your experiences. Comments such as honest and diligent professionals won’t add value to your resume. As an appropriate alternative, let your audience have a clear insight into what you can do best and objectives. “Able to identify and solve problems quickly and efficiently or an excellent team player but can as well work independently,” are two examples that are specific and provide insightful information about your capabilities. Towards the end of this section, briefly talk about your career aspirations, but should be related to the position you are currently applying.

Work Experience in Canada

In this section, list details of relevant roles from previous experiences (three or four shortlist will suffice.) The hiring manager is already aware of the duties and responsibilities, avoid listing them

Speak the manager language: Highlight achievements from your previous experiences, talk about challenges and problems you experience, what you did to solve them, and the results that you accomplished. Mention how this saved time, increased revenue, or opened doors to other favorable outcomes. This is the time to shine and let your potential employer know your abilities and what you have accomplished in previous roles, but do not use more than four short illustrations
