The new Alberta Express Entry selection draw sent invitations to around 300 Express Entry system candidates. It was a move made to facilitate the application of provincial nomination to those that wish to settle in Alberta. Usually, to get an invitation, a minimum score of 400 points is required of the selected 294 candidates as recommended by Express Entry’s Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).
It is worth noting that the minimum score mentioned above was a reduction of 38 points. This is because the lowest score drawn through a federal Express Entry invitation round was 438 on January 30th, 2019.
Economic immigration categories
The Express Entry system takes responsibility for managing a pool of candidates for the following three main economic immigration categories in Canada;
• The Federal Skilled Worker Class
• The Federal Skilled Trades Class
• The Canadian Experience Class
The ranking of candidates in a particular pool uses the Comprehensive Ranking System score. The system takes into account some factors like education, proficiency in French and English, age, and skilled work experience. After all the details are taken into account, Express Entry candidates are awarded an additional 600 Comprehensive Ranking System points.
The candidates that receive additional points gain an express ticket for moving to the top of the Express Entry pool. It gives them a successful assurance of applying for Canadian permanent residence in the subsequent Express Entry draw. Usually, it takes place once every two weeks. At the moment, Alberta has issued 5,236 invitations to Express Entry candidates within the 23 draws made this year alone. It is a remarkable figure that shows how effective this system has come to be.
