What about PNPs?
Canadian provinces use Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) to help them nominate candidates who support their regional labor market and population objectives.
The majority of the provinces in Canada have PNPs aligned with Express Entry with the exceptions of Nunavut and Quebec.
Since the draw carried out on 4th March , several Canada’s Express Entry-aligned provincial nomination streams have distributed invitations. Some of these include streams in Manitoba,Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan.
PNP streams here have carried out over 30 draws since 2020 started.
However, it is good to note that the Express Entry is not a program itself. Instead, it can be classified as an application management system for three immigration programs.
They include:
- Canadian Experience Class
- Federal Skilled Worker Program
- Federal Skilled Trades Program
The Government’s Plan
Under the 2020-2022 Immigration Levels Project, the Canadian government is targeting the admission of around 341,000 immigrants in 2020 with a progressive increase of 10,000 immigrants for the years 2021 and 2022.
PNP admissions are perceived to increase by 20 percent in 2022.
Corona and Immigration
The coronavirus pandemic has changed many things, one of them being the Canadian immigration landscape.
the pandemic, Express Entry draws were regularly occurring every two weeks. This schedule changed when the government had to put in place strict measures to curb the virus.
Since March 18, the draws were exhibiting irregular patters not like before.
Draws before the pandemic also included candidates from all streams. However, the recent four draws, including this one, have targeted provincial nominees or Canadian Experience Class candidates.
IRCC had to use its tiebreak rule in this draw. This means that candidates received ITA invitations if:
- They scored 808 and above in their CRS
- And submitted their profile before March 18, 2020 at 10:30:55 UTC
