The Way Forward

The Canada immigration minister Marco Mendicino has made multiple announcements concerning immigration to Canada. Among them is the role of foreign workers in the Canadian economy. He also stated that immigration would continue during the recovery of the economy when the current global pandemic is behind us.

IRCC and various Canadian provisions are continually urging immigrants to apply for permanent residence since the ease of movement restrictions. IRCC had conducted 11 Express Entry raffles since March 18th when restrictions policies were imposed. Two more draws are to be held this week, but the scores are expected to decline.

In recent months, Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Nova Scotia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Prince Edward Island conducted separate Provisional Nominee Programs (PNP) draws as well. The draws include all people interested in applying for permanent residence both in and out of Canada. Such an example was seen in last week’s Ontario PNP draw. Canada seems to look for new ways of welcoming more immigrants into the country in the coming months.

Canada has eased its travel restrictions for immediate family members of both Canadian-born citizens and permanent residents. Additionally, the IRCC has exempted overseas biometric requirements for immigrants. The strategy will allow for the processing of several study permits before the beginning of the 2020 academic semester.

This may be an indication that the Canadian government is likely to find other means of accommodating the arrival of more permanent residents in the next few months. Besides, the country is expected to deliver a more detailed announcement before the expiry of its travel restrictions on July 1st.
