Prince Edward Island issued the new invitation to allow the candidates in is Express entry, Business Impact immigration, and Labour Impact to apply for the provincial nomination. The new draw held as at December 20th contains the category of candidates in all the above categories.

Express Entry candidates and the Labour Impact candidates are issued with a sum of sixty-five (65) invitations. There was no breakdown of the exact number of candidates of Express Entry invited by the PEI PNP (Prince Edward Provincial Nominee Program). There was also an issue of nine (9) invitation to the Business Impact (Work Permit) candidates.

A total number of 1240 of invitations has been issued by the PEI PNP in 2018 through the two categories of candidates; Labour Market Impact category and Express Entry. This summery as a percentage of the total invitations issued in 2018, through the various provinces’ immigration categories sums up to 86%

The Express Entry category of the PEI is for a candidate who has a profile in the federal Express Entry System. There are Express Entry managers who oversee a pool of Canada’s Federal High Skilled immigration. The category includes:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Class
  • Federal Skilled Trades Class
  • Canadian Experience Class

An additional of 600 points are awarded to the Express Entry candidate who has a provincial nomination. The points boost the ranking scores that give them better chances of applying to be a permanent resident of Canada.

All candidates who have an interest in an Express Entry being considered for the provincial nomination must register their EOI (Expression of Interest) first with the PEI PNP. The candidates are expected to provide the following details:

  • Education details
  • Work experience
  • Evidence of fluency in either English or French

These are among other details to help them award scores that are based on the information gathered from the above details.

The Expression of Interests of the candidates are reviewed and points are therefore assigned based on different factors. Those candidates with higher scores that are based on PEI PNP’s points system which is unique are therefore issued with invitations so that they would apply for the provincial nominations. The following are the selection factors:

  • Age of the candidate
  • Language
  • Education background
  • Work experience
  • Employment
  • Maximum of up to 100 points of adaptability

The Express Entry candidates do not have to secure a job within the province to be able to get an invitation to apply for the provincial nomination. There are known cases where the PEI PNP contacts these candidates who have not handed over their EOI (Expression of Interest) to the province but those who match the skills required in the labor market that the province needs.

The Labour Impact Category do operate on a basis of Expression of Interest (EOI). It is divided into three categories of workers:

  • Skilled Worker
  • Critical Worker
  • International Graduate

These candidates must be current workers of the PEI or should have an offer of a job within the province. Business Impact (Work Permit) candidates which are invited in the latest draw had a score of 130. A temporary work permit is provided by this stream to specific entrepreneurs to do business in PEI. It only issues permanent residence with a nomination in terms of how their performance in business is met
