IRCC had plans that contradicted the desires of FSWP in 2021. Last year, the agency’s strategy was to concentrate on candidates already residing in Canada and who had not achieved their permanent residence status. The process is not as easy and fast as the FSWP would wish since IRCC estimated that the process would take up to three years to complete. To bring the lengthy processing time back to six months, IRCC eventually had to pause FSWP candidates’ Express Entry draws. 2022 brings better news because, according to internal briefing notes, it will take the first half of this year to clear the backlogs.

What is Express Entry?

Express entry is a Canadian immigration program for the following three groups of candidates with the potential of earning a permanent residence in Canada: the Canadian Experience Class, the Federal Skilled Worker Program, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program. The Provincial nominee program (PNP) in the Express Entry pool, on the other hand, is already qualified for one of these programs.

How Does Express Entry operate?

Express Entry uses a points-based system called Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to determine candidates’ legibility for direct entry. The system ranks the candidates’ profiles, and the candidates who score highly will receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA).

After the application by high-scoring candidates, an IRCC officer reviews all their applications and decides whether the individuals are viable for permanent residence or not. The officer might ask for a personal interview with the applicants and will take their biometrics. The officer might, when need be, request more documents from the applicant while processing the application.

If the candidate qualifies for permanent residence, the IRCC issues a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR). The approved candidates’ role is to complete their landing procedures and, if outside Canada, could need pre-arrival services help to aid their preparation for settlement in Canada.
