The NBI is a tool which measures the international reputation of 60 countries. It helps to align international views with reality in order to better a country. It does this according to six categories namely:
- Exports
- Governance
- Culture
- People
- Tourism and
- immigration and investment
This year the NBI got their survey results from a great 60,000 interviews whereas in previous years they got their results from only 20,000 interviews.
This year Canada was placed first in the immigration and investment category. This category measures the awareness of a country’s ability to attract immigrants, foreign workers and international students. Immigration and investment also looks at how each country’s quality of life and business environment is viewed.
The country of Canada also scored top marks for governance. Governance measures the abilities of national government as well as fairness. It also measures its level of commitment to global issues such as peace, justice, poverty, and the environment.
Canada also held the top spot for the people category. What does the people category do? Well the people category examines the reputation of a country’s for the following:
- competence,
- openness,
- friendliness and
- tolerance
