Ontario’s Immigration Minister, Vic Fedeli has been pushing for an increase in the allocation slots with a target to attain 13,000 extra slots by 2022. His efforts are not futile as the numbers have been looking up since 2019. Despite Covid 19 pandemic related restrictions, Ontario nominations in 2020 were 8,050, recording an increase from the 7,391 witnessed in 2019.

The state of Ontario is one of the most attractive states in the country. This year Ontario gets to receive 8,350 nomination slots with special consideration for immigrants with high school level of education and special training. Aspiring immigrants can now take advantage of the extra 250 nominations exclusively available to foreign workers in the National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill level C.
Nominations for immigration candidates go through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). In a move to increase the number of nominations, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) launched an Expression of Interest Program (EOI). Through this program candidates are free to register for nominations through the Provincial Nominations Program.
How Does the Ontario Provinces Nominations Program Work?
PNPs main objective was to allow the provinces to focus on their specific labor needs. These nominations do not guarantee you permanent residence as the final decision lies within the federal government. Being nominated with the PNP, however, places the candidates at an advantage.
Most new immigrants prefer Ontario as their final settling destination. Immigrants who establish their permanent residence in the state get to benefit from a set of programs which make their lives easier by increasing their chances of securing employment. Studies show that most of those who benefit from the PNP have previous experience in the country.
