Ontario has held three tech draws in 2020, welcoming skilled foreign workers to fill positions in one of the six in-demand occupations.
The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) recently held its regular immigration draw on July 29, which turned out to be the most significant nomination thus far. The provincial immigration department reported to have sent a total of 1,288 invitations to eligible candidates who could receive permanent residence under the Express Entry Human Capital Priorities class. The draw was limited to immigrants who had between 463 & 477 points in the Comprehensive Ranking Score (CRS) system.
The nomination draw did not require immigration applicants to have a job offer in their bid to become Canadian residents. However, it required applicants to have at least twelve months of working experience in one of the following positions:
- Computer Engineers
- Software engineers and developers
- Computer & information system managers
- Data analysts & administrators
- Web designers & developers
- Programmers interactive media developers
Additionally, immigration candidates were also required to create a profile once they receive a Nomination of Interest (NoI). A profile details a candidate’s age, work experience, proficiency in English and French, among other factors. Once they receive an NoI, people need to submit their provincial nomination papers within 45 calendar days.
Candidates who pass Ontario’s nomination automatically get an additional 600 points in their CRS scale, further boosting their overall score. As a result, their chances of getting an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence in the next Express Entry draw increase. That applies to any candidate who passes a PNP draw within their respective province in Canada.
