Why Is Canada Introducing This New Program?

Since the announcement of new caregiver immigration pathways on June 3rd, 2024, Canada officially closed the Home Child Care Provider Pilot and Home Support Worker Pilot on June 17th, 2024. This led to a gap in caregiver immigration programs.

There has been a rising demand for home care professionals in the sector, making this program essential to ensure high-quality home care services for families in Canada. The Canadian government recognizes that caregivers play a very important role in supporting people with disabilities and families that need home based care.

Canada has introduced several caregiver programs, many of which have since been discontinued, including:

Caregiver Program Year of Closure
Live-in Caregiver program 2014
Caring for People with High Medical Needs Pilot 2019
Caring for Children Pilot 2019
Interim Pathway for Caregivers 2019
Home Support Worker Pilot 2024
Home Child Care Provider Pilot 2024

Now, the Home Care Worker Immigration Pilots will provide caregivers with a better and improved pathway to permanent residence in Canada.

How Many Caregivers Will Be Accepted?

According to Canada’s 2025-2027 immigration plan, 10,920 spots will be available under Federal Economic Pilots, which includes this new caregiver program. However, these spots will be shared with other immigration programs, including:

  • The new caregiver immigration pilots
  • The Agri-Food Pilot
  • Community Immigration Pilots
  • The Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot.

Due to this, spaces may be limited, so early application is recommended. It has never been easier for home care workers to permanently reside in Canada upon arrival. Interested? Start applying now!
