3. Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA)

Citizens of countries in the European Union may be eligible for the permit.

Professionals: You can be self-employed or a contractor service supplier. You must have an equivalent education or university degree, relevant work experience, or certifications.

Service suppliers must have been with the EU company for at least a year and have a contract with Canada. Self-employed individuals must have a signed contract with a Canadian service consumer.

Validity: Up to two years, but can only work for one year.

Intra-Company Transferees: Eligible applicants are executives, supervisors, graduate trainees, or those with specialized knowledge. The EU company you work for must have a brand, subsidiary, or affiliate company in Canada.

Validity: Up to one year for graduate trainees and three years for specialists and executives.

Investors: Eligible applicants are supervisors, executives, or individuals planning to invest in a new or existing business in Canada.

Validity: Up to 24 months, but employment is allowed only for a year.

Technologists: Eligible applicants must be a scientific technologist or engineer with equivalent qualifications and three years of relevant experience. You must also be employed with the EU company for at least a year.

Validity: Up to 24 months, but employment for one year only.

4. Canada-Colombia Free Trade Agreement (CCoFTA)

Are you a Colombian citizen? If you meet certain eligibility requirements, you can get the permit through CCoFTA.

Professionals: Your profession must fall under the *NOC TEER 0 or 1) and you must have a post-secondary degree (4 years) in the relevant field. You must also have the required certification and licensing requirements.

Validity: Up to one year.

Intra-Company Transferees: You may qualify if you’re a specialized knowledge worker, a manager, or executive of a multinational company in your country, and sent to Canada to work. You should have at least six months of continuous employment with this company.

Validity: Up to three years.

Technicians: Technicians in Colombia can qualify if they have a two-year degree in the field. They must also have certifications and work in a *TEER 2 or 3 occupation.

Validity: Up to one year.

Traders and Investors: You can qualify if you have the essential skills needed or are an executive or supervisor planning to trade goods and services in Canada.

Validity: Up to one year.

5. Canada-Chile Free Trade Agreement (CCFTA)

If you’re a resident of Chile and fall into an eligible category, you may be able to get an LMIA-exempt work permit.

Professionals: Eligible applicants are those in the allied, scientific, or medical field or in a teaching occupation who meet all the educational requirements needed for the application. You must also have all the required certifications and licensing.

Validity: Up to three years.

Intra-Company Transferees: You can qualify if you work in a multinational company with a brand, parent, subsidiary or affiliate in Canada, and it must be in the related field. You must also be a specialized knowledge employee, an executive or a manager.

Validity: Three years for a specialized employee and five years for the executive or manager.

Investors and Traders: Executives, supervisors, and individuals with relevant skills and planning to engage in business between Canada and Chile. You must have a substantial investment to qualify for this.

Validity: Up to one year.
