Come the month of March, there was a series of weekly Express Entry draws. In the month of April, we saw a return to a more typical draw schedule on Wednesdays that is set to continue until late 2022 and beyond into 2023.
After a period of Provincial Nominee Program-specific draws, IRCC returned to a more traditional approach with all-program draws in March and April. On February 2nd, however, they held a historic draw dedicated solely to Federal Skilled Workers — a first for Canada’s immigration system.
What is Express Entry
Express Entry is an online system used by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to manage applications for permanent residence for three programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
The Federal Skilled Worker Program is for skilled workers with foreign work experience who want to immigrate to Canada permanently. Applicants are assessed based on factors such as age, education, work experience, language ability, and adaptability.
The Federal Skilled Trades Program is for skilled tradespeople with work experience in a skilled trade who want to immigrate to Canada permanently. Applicants are assessed based on factors such as work experience, language ability, and education.
The Canadian Experience Class is for skilled workers with Canadian work experience who want to immigrate to Canada permanently. Applicants are assessed based on factors such as work experience, language ability, and education.
Express Entry uses the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to evaluate the suitability of individuals who seek permanent residence in Canada. The candidates are scored and ranked according to their profile. Those with the highest scores are most likely to be offered an Invitation to Apply (ITA) from IRCC. Having received an ITA, candidates have a total of 60 days to send their completed application for review. Thereafter, the decision whether they get approved lies with the immigration officer on duty.
