Are You Eligible for a Trades Invitation?

Before focusing on the 476-point score, make sure you meet the requirements.

First, you must be eligible for one of the three Express Entry immigration programs:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Canadian Experience Class
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program

Your work background also counts. You need a year’s worth of qualifying experience, equal to at least 12 months of full-time employment or its part-time equivalent, in one approved trade within the last three years.

Since not every occupation is included, check IRCC’s official trades category list.

Should You Aim for 476 CRS Points?

Not necessarily.

Figures from September 27, 2026, show that 229,904 people were in the Express Entry pool. Among them, 16,465 had scores within the 471–480 bracket.

Future CRS requirements aren’t fixed. They can change depending on how many invitations Canada issues and which candidates qualify.

Even a small increase could strengthen your position.

What’s Your Next Move?

The October 1 draw is a good reminder that having a CRS score in the 400s doesn’t necessarily mean your Express Entry chances are over.

So, if you’re a skilled trades worker sitting around that score, don’t just wait and hope for the next draw.

Check whether you qualify for the trades category, look at your CRS score, and see what you can improve.

You might be closer to receiving an invitation than you think.
