CRS provides bonus points for candidates with a sibling living in Canada or arranged employment. Candidates also get extra points for nominations via an Express Entry-linked Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) stream. The provincial nomination is by far the factor that will yield the most points. A candidate will receive a bonus 600 points under the CRS. Given the minimum entry score is 440, one will doubtlessly be a shoo-in for an ITA.
All of Canada’s provinces and territories participate in the PNP and have the Express Entry system linked to one of their immigration streams. IRCC data indicates that 12% of all 2018 ITAs were issued to Express Entry Candidates with a provincial nomination. The represents a surge from 9% in 2017.
This development comes as no surprise given IRCC’s multi-year immigration levels plan. This plan is set to increase the total 208 PNP admissions to 61000. A figure that beats 2018’s target by 6,000.
The goal is to increase the PNP admissions to 71,300 by 2021. A figure that surpasses the 2018 Federal High Skilled Target of 55,000 by 30%. On the other hand, the Federal High Skilled Target for 2019 is set to hit a high of 81,400. A figure that surpasses the 2018’s target of 74,900 by 6,500.
The Express Entry system provides the avenue through which most candidates admitted via the Federal High Skilled Immigration Category have their permanent resident status applications processed. Below are hypothetical examples of candidates who would have landed an invitation on the draw held on 12th December.
Damien
Damien is 32, has a two-year diploma and a bachelor’s degree. He has worked as a financial clerk overseas for five years. He scored an 8 in Listening and a 7 in Writing, Speaking and Reading in the IELTS exam. He’s never worked or studied in Canada but his CRS score of 446 would have given him an ITA.
Laurie and Jeremy
Laurie and Jeremy as both 30 and both have a Non-Canadian one-year certificate and a Bachelor’s degree. The two of them work as consultants. Laurie scored a 7 in Speaking and Writing, an 8 in Listening and 7.5 in reading in the IELTS exam. Jeremy scored a 6 in Writing, 5 in Listening and 5 in Speaking and Reading. Laurie applied as the principal applicant and their CRS of 445 would have landed them an ITA.
David Cohen, a senior partner with the Montreal-based Campbell Cohen Immigration law firm expresses plenty of optimism for the record that’s about to be set. He also adds that beating the 2017 record would be a remarkable way to end a phenomenal year
