More time for permanent residence applications
If you’re finding it hard to complete the permanent residency application within the 60 days, you’ll need to provide an explanation to the IRCC and pay all associated extension fees. But it’s possible to get the deadline extended. Those whose already hold permanent residency visas can have their deadline extended by letting the IRCC know about their situation.
Chinese nationals need to have another medical exam if their last one expired. And, the previously announced measures for Chinese applications have been extended to Iranian and South Korean applicants.
Temporary residents may apply for extensions
Foreign residents in Canada will need to apply for an extension of their status, and can do so by applying online, meeting all requirements, and paying all associated fees. For those who have already applied for an extension to their status, they have been granted an implied status and will be able to stay in Canada until a final decision is made.
Citizenship ceremonies and knowledge test cancelled
As above, the Government has canceled all citizenship and visa related events, tests and interviews, but these will be rescheduled sometime in the future when its safe. Those affected should receive a new date soon. Interviewees should notify the IRCC once they arrive back in Canada, so that they are assured of receiving a new meeting time. They will have to provide a Medical Opinion form after they return, but will be given 45 days to provide this. The physical presence requirement isn’t being waived though, and any extra days spent in China, Iran or South Korea won’t be counted as days in Canada.
