The visa exemption begins June 5 at 5:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time and 1:30 p.m.Gulf Standard Time.
Canadian Immigration Minister Ahmed Hussen explained in a news release, “The United Arab Emirates is a key strategic partner and lifting the visa requirement will help affirm the strong relationship between our two countries.” He then mentioned benefits including trade and investment opportunities or stimulating new business, and many others.
The Canadian government proclaimed short stay visas will no longer be mandatory for United Arab Emirates (UAE) citizens. UAE citizens must limit visits to 6 months or less for short stay designation. Business, visiting family and friends, or tourism are accepted purposes.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) stated the UAE qualifies for exemption via “rigorous evaluation” confirming it fulfilled Canada’s criteria. UAE citizens will need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) for access to Canadian airports. . Applications for eTA will be available June 5 online.
