So what is IRCC’s agenda for 2021? What do they hope to achieve? Well, word has it that the Canadian government has pledged to increase their immigration target for next year. This has created a buzz considering this year Canada welcomed more newcomers than anyone had anticipated.

The Multi-Year levels Plan
If numbers are anything to go by, IRCC has set the highest immigration target ever this time around. The country is hoping to welcome more than 1.2 million newcomers in the next few years.
Marco Mendicino, Canada’s immigration minister said in October 2020 that a new multi-year levels plan will be rolled out in 2021. This plan is intended to help IRCC attain the target of 401,000 new permanent residents. If things go as planned, this will be the largest number of new Canadian residents IRCC has ever welcomed within a year since its inception.
The federal government has set these lofty targets because even though immigration programs kept running in 2020, the outcomes were limited because of COVID-19. Canada needs these numbers to aid in economic recovery post-coronavirus.
Express Entry to Issue Higher Number of ITAs Than Ever Before
All things considered, 2020 was most defiantly a record-breaking year for the IRCC. They managed to keep immigrant coming in spite of travel restrictions without risking the lives of citizens.
Canada’s Express Entry system managed to keep up with activities every two weeks from June all the way to December. In fact, we saw the highest numbers of invitations to Apply in the last three draws that took place in December.
IRCC has been burning the midnight oil to ensure that come 2021, every industry has sufficient work force to keep the economic engine running. Immigration’s objective is to keep up the trend because the country greatly depends on talented foreign nationals to keep the labour market balanced.
