In 2017, around 65% or 162,500 of all the profiles that were submitted qualified for one of Express Entry’s programs. These include Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Trades, Federal Skilled Worker, and some parts of the Provincial Nominee Program. In 2018, the number of the eligible profiles rose to 195,659. This covered 70% of the total profiles that Express Entry received.
2018 saw the immigration authorities in Canada record almost 280,000 Express Entry Profiles. They were one of the highest that the system that manages applications from skilled workers for permanent residence has ever had.

From that, we gather that even if you qualify for the program, you cannot have a 100% assurance that you will get permanent residence, under Canada’s economic immigration system. Express Entry requires you to score highly to have the desired Invitation to Apply (ITA).
The Profiles That Express Entry Received Spiked Greatly
Furthermore, from the Express Entry Year-End Report 2018, you will also notice that the Express Entry pool had more profiles from January 3, 2018, compared to those in the pool from the same date in 2017. They had increased by 33%. Profiles that scored 400-449 (+10,777) and 350-399 (+8,591) mostly accounted for the recorded surge.
This was a clear illustration that competition was higher in the profiles that were nearer to the minimum Comprehensive Ranking System scores that were around the 440-445 point range.
