How to increase your CRS score
To increase their chances of ITA acceptance, candidates can focus on several strategies to increase their CRS score. CRS evaluates candidates based on basic human capital factors such as age, education, and work experience, as well as the transferability of skills and partnership factors of a spouse or partner.
Newcomers can take steps to increase their score by getting more education, improving their language skills in English or French (with additional points for bilingualism), gaining more work experience – either in Canada or abroad – entering provincial nominations or obtaining business qualifications recognized by Canadian provinces.
The Importance of Express Entry
Despite predictions that entry could be overtaken by PNP allocations in 2024, it remains a vital route of economic immigration to Canada. IRCC’s recent immigration level plan announcement indicates an increase in Express Entry landings from 110,770 in 2024 to 124,590 in 2025. In contrast, the PNP allocation for the same periods has been reduced from 110,000 to 55,000.
Recent allocation changes are expected to significantly affect the ITAs issued by IRCC in various immigration programs. With the reduction in PNP landing targets in 2025 compared to 2024, there is likely to be a reduction in ITAs issued through base PNP streams. Conversely, as the allocation to Express Entry programs increases, IRCC will need to issue more ITAs to meet these higher targets. This shift underscores the growing importance of express entry as a critical pathway for foreign skilled workers looking to immigrate to Canada in 2025.
